Weixiang's Bday!

I wish i can blog more often... i have so many photos in my dear Treo tt i wish i had the time to rename and share with everyone. I shall find a gd time to write a food entry to settle the food photos and wait till end of Surgery posting to put up some interesting photos i took at CGH :)

Anyway, everything else can be postponed, but not Weixiang's bday photos!

Let's start from Zam Weixiang day!

Dinner at 黑社会. I had pretty high expectations of this place cos it is featured on tv, magazines and on several blogs but my noodles turned out too salty for my liking! Hope everyone else enjoyed their dinner though! :)

My favourite Photos!...

I never knew our dear Neuroscience rep Leonard is so cartoon and cute! haha

I shall end this post with this shot :)

I know the sight of this makes a lot of pple happy! We had the whole box of it to ourselves at public health screening meeting! Woo~

Happy Again

I was out shopping for birthday presents when i realised that it feels really good to buy things i like which i will never buy for myself :)

I also saw a butterfly windchime which i had to resist myelf from buying, but seeing it made my day! :) yay

No wonder some people say i'm easily contented :)

This year is really birthday parties galore.. i was just thinking today that the next time when there will be as many celebrations would be when my friends are getting married one after another! Y'know, i already know of someone who is looking for bridesmaid!

Happy

This deserves an entry on its own!

I'm happy because i finally got to see Audry Lee after 84836294642 yrs when we actually live so close to each other.

It's really nice.. all the dreams i've had abt cambridge and having nice thoughts abt the place culminating to seeing friends i miss so dearly... I'm Happy.

Thanks Gek! If not for ur party, i may have to wait till Audry graduate to see her.

Lastly, Happy Birthday Gek!

Sunrise Dream

I was told that on average, all of us have 4-5 dreams each night but it's hard to believe cos we seldom rmbr that many.

Anyway, i woke up today thinking abt what Bertram told me some time back. He thinks that the best sunrise photo he has seen was the one published on a certain issue of National Geographic magazine.

At that time, i thought all photos of sunrise look similar and i couldnt really identify my favourite. I even thought i'd never do so until i saw one last night!

I dreamt of the most beautiful sunrise last night. The weird (or perhaps amazing) thing to me was the dream was set in Cambridge! Not that they have such sunrise there, but at the moment when i was watching the sunrise with the rest, i suddenly understood why some people love watching sunrise so much.

The dream was perfect, but for my own sake, i attempted to draw what i saw!

My friends and i with everyone else were waiting at the cliff for the sun to rise. The sunrise was very different cos it rose behind a distant island with tall trees! I just have to say
(1) I know that cambridge is no where near the sea
(2) I like this sunrise cos it's not the usual sun-rise-up-from-the-sea or a plain shot of the sky.

For those who have watched City of Angels starring Nicholas cage... rmbr the part where the angels would await the first beam of light from the sun? My friends waited patiently just like they did.

The moment the sun emerged behind the trees was so breathtaking that i suddenly felt that if were to die today, i could leave with no regrets cos i've seen something so beautiful! On the other hand, my friends from cambridge made me understand that the sunrise every morning was so worth looking forward to that they will work super hard for the rest of the day and await for the next sunrise.

The sunrise is a combination of some of these photos. Nothing comes close! It was just so beautiful :)

Hence, like my friends from cambridge, i shall work damn hard. I'm sure it will pay off.

Lastly, it was nice walking around cambridge like i just visited it. I ought to visit the place again soon!

Campus Superstar

I dont really follow campus superstar, but after watching the first episode at Kahhua's house, this boy left me the deepest impression.

The news reported that it was 'earth-shattering' for some when he was eliminated. I was surprised too, but i was quite sure he will make a come back, especially i thought his singing was not bad and he's really smart to use his age to his advantage.

Which other contestant appeals to the general crowd more than this little boy? It makes me wonder how nice/interesting it would be if i have a younger brother, perhaps like him? haa.. :)

Anyway, here's the link to the clip of his performace at the revival round. I like his shirt! :)

Amazing Things God Creates

I've always thought that the sight of thousands of corusating stars in the nightsky is a pretty one to behold. Perhaps this is why i like the diamond advert with the girl holding up her hand in comparison to the stars in the sky, the scene in a beautiful mind when John nash drew shapes by joining stars for his wife and also the scene from a lot like love when the photographer took a photo with the starry night sky as the background.

Unfortunately, cameras just dont do justice to the beauty of stars. I guess there's a limit to what a camera can capture. I rmbr that Kristy's place had plenty of stars but the city lights took away some of the attention those stars deserved and i couldnt take a proper photo of them!

I want to go somewhere with a lot of stars and have someone explain to me abt the constellations which i know very little about. I want to wish upon a shooting star and i want to fall asleep counting stars!

Can anyone tell me how me how do photographers let stars leave circular trails? Is it long exposure? How long?

Another pretty sight of the sky is auroras.. It's sth that amazes me and i hope to see it at least once this life time.

On another note, while photos sometime do not do justice to some things, food photography always make food look so yummy!

When i retire, or when i have the time, i must take up this hobby :)

Precious Sleep

I think everyone knows what it is like to be so tired tt u just want to crash in bed right after u get home. In the past, such tiredness only happens when i dont sleep after a few days of chalet, one of the night cycling, long flights, OBS etc
But it's unbelievable tt i'm feeling that more often!

Perhaps Age is catching up on me.

Thank goodness that i am not the only one. It appears that it is the norm for some people to crash after dinner and then wake up at 11 to study till the wee hours and then catch some sleep before the routine repeats again.

Conclusion: Sleep is precious.

Qiantai thinks so and even thinks that it is sth pple outside of medicine wont understand.

Anyway, i found something that can really irritate me. I hate it when my parents push me the phone when i am asleep or half awake. It leaves me with
(1) Disrupted sleep and headache
(2) Random remarks i make to pple on the other line and not rmbr them

Matthew once told me tt he spoke to me for a substantial length when he realised tt i didnt sound quite right. I think it is interesting tt i even held on long enough to sustain the conversation but what's more interesting is tt i completely cannot remember talking to him!

Who knows... maybe we didnt even talk and i rmbr this all these while.

Anyway, i was told tt we cannot remember the things that happen exactly before we fall asleep... so now u know when to dig pple's deepest secrets.. haha

Can Somebody Enlighten Me

Morrie said that we wont know how to live until we know how to die. But don't you think that one of life's best teacher is life itself? If death hasn't got a chance to teach you how to live, u should let ur life do so. Learn from your mistakes and dont repeat it again.

I've been thinking that knowing how to live also begins from knowing yourself well. How many people can tell you that they know themselves well?

Anyway, i've been thinking about an interesting scenario that i hope someone can enlighten me about. Let me use an analogy...

One day, you find an apple on your desk and you happily assume that someone left it there for you and decide to eat it. Then someone comes along and ask if you've seen an apple and accuses you for stealing his apple. You then explain that you really thought the apple was a gift and later this man says,"Stop explaining that you assumed the apple was yours, why can't you just admit that you stole my apple?"

Let's not focus on the fact that it is indeed wrong to assume that the apple is a gift, but can you see that you ate the apple cos you really thought the apple was yours? If you explain your reason for eating the apple, are you being defensive? Why do accusers not see that you are plainly stating facts?

Isnt it interesting if the guy stop to think about why he left the apple on your desk in the first place? I think the best way to end this scenario is for both to see that they each played a part in the unhappy situation and so they both are quits.
I'm sure the guy didnt leave the apple there on purpose and you too didnt eat the apple on purpose :)

Let's try this again...
There are apples in the pantry and person A decides to take an apple while no one is around and thinks that no one while know who took the apple anyway. Person B on the other hand genuinely thinks,"Whoa, who is so kind to provide us with apples today?" and took an apple. Both person A and B did not know that was a CCTV in the pantry and both have been identified to be responsible for the theft of apples.

Can you see that if both of them tell the investigator that they honestly thought the apples were free for taking, person A is in the position to be accused for hiding his true intention?
Person B on the other hand was speaking the truth.

Why are people always so quick to judge that anyone who explains are just trying to cover their faults? I really hope that the next time someone explains something, you should stop to think that there are people who are stating facts, while others are hiding truth.

Perhaps my nature is to give people the benefit of doubt which is why i cannot be a policewoman. Instead of assuming that you are hiding the truth until proven otherwise, i choose to assume the better of people first. What kinda person are you?

I'm so sorry that if this nature of mine has upset you when you come to me for advice. I have no intention of being unsupportive but it is the truth that some people feel better if the listener sides them, but i am more likely to analyse the problem and try to see things for the offender's point of view.

Perhaps you might think it is 自欺欺人, but i just feel better that everyone has a gd reason for the things they do. I have felt terrible for having bad thoughts about people.

Lately, i've been having a crystal clear outlook of life. Life is simplier without unnecessary expectations. One day, Gab and i noticed a msg left on a patient's bed written using alphabet biscuits. I think it says something to the effect of 'Get well soon, love you loads.' Sweet indeed. Gab asked if i want kendrick to do something like that and my answer was it's nice, but i dont expect it. I think i have grown to enjoy unexpected surprises and not expect things and wait for someone to fulfil it. I really do not know how many people can understand this. Simply, if you get sth u like without expecting it, you're likely to be more happy than when you've been expecting it all along. Similarly, if you dont expect it, you dont lose anything if you dont get it but u'll be damn upset if you've been expecting it all along.

Of course, i'm still working the 境界 of having the expectations but not let the unfufilled expectations upset you. It's a gd practice of emotional control.

I dont let troubles trouble me for too long. I practise letting go, so dont be surprise if my memory of you hurting me is fuzzy. This keeps me happy and 拿得起放得下is really an art.

Recently, i have this funny thought: If life is a landscape, you shouldnt be appreciating it on land. It's probably better from the air. Just look at one of my fave pictures...

If you're standing amongst the trees and you may find your fave tree and appraise it for its beauty. But can you see how much beauty you'd be missing if you dont have a better view from above?

Anyway, back to the life analogy. I just feel that there are bigger problems in life that is worth harping on. You could spend all your time trying to debug a tree not knowing that almost the whole forest is on fire! But of course, some small problem can become big problems so perhaps the key to it is to have a gd grasp of both.

Looks like i've got a lot to think about. Can someone enlighten me if this is a correctly way to look at life?

Saturdays

I used to have the whole of Saturdays to myself and i could do whatever i wanted, but as of the start of surgery posting, half of every Saturday is gone!

Fortunately the first Saturday morning lecture was rather fruitful and i'm really hoping that every Saturday lecture will be useful!

Anyway, we celebrated Jessica's bday at the much talked abt Sun with moon. They must be really popular 'cos the waiting list was sooo longgg. In the end they offered us their private room with the condition that we must vacate before 3pm sharp. It was quite and interesting experience cos we all felt that the room made us feel that we are coming up with some top secret conspiracy. haha :)

Jessica, Hope you'll be as Happy, cute and funny as always!

The food was not bad, but we were too full and didn't really have time to try their signature desserts. I hope to try their tofu cheesecake some day!

Foody Saturday last week

At Cedele

Kendrick and i love their soup and bread bar! When it comes to soup, people always think about soup spoon (which in my opinion i think it is not bad, but i like them more for their wraps), I personally think that cedele serves better soup. We had saffron clam chowder which i think beats soup spoon's clam chowder hands down! Not only did the soup have plenty of clams, saffron which was added is by the way a very exquisite and expensive spice used in cooking.
For those of you who know spanish paella, saffron is used to colour the rice yellow and give the grains a special flavour.
Next time when u drop by the supermarket, u can look out for saffron and one matchstick box-size box of saffron is over $10!

Some cottage waffle place

The waffle was just the way i like it. Crisp on the outside and soft on the inside :)
But the dreyer's ice cream they gave me was a tad too sweet for my liking.
Find this shop at the newly renovated connection on the top floor that gets u to the cinema :)

We splurged a little at Indulgz bistro

Well, the food was not too bad. Kendrick's Crispy angel hair pasta was drenched in very yummy mushroom cream and my butterfish steak was so fresh that every bite of the fish in the mouth breaks the fish into discrete flakes BUT the cheese fondue was quite a let down. We thought from the menu that the white wine added to the cheese would complement the cheese but it turned out tt it overpowered the much-loved distinct flavour cheese:(
Has anyone tried cheese fondue? Please tell me if it is supposed to taste like that.

Random pics of Saturday

Going left to right starting from top left
(1) A cute sight of starfishes walking across suntec. I suppose these are children performing for NDP :)
(2) Cute children playing at the fountain. The elder sister would run up to the fountain when the water ceased to spurt to await the next spurt of water. When it happens, she would scream and run away. The cuter sight was the little boy mimicking his sister. But because he is shorter and naturally has smaller stride, he is often slower in response in his mini shuttle runs. He's so cute, cos at one point, he was just concentrating on running up and down and out of sync with his sister! I accidentally deleted the video i took of these 2 fellows though :(
(3) DHL balloon. I wonder if i will ever go up :) Is it worth it?
(4-6) Cute tortises at the arcade
(7) More pretty cakes i saw that day. This time at Aerin's :)
(8) Square dim sum bamboo baskets!
(9) Kendrick loves red bean hum chee peng!
