Reasons to Be Happy

Today is a happy dayyy :)

I met some friends i have not seen in a gazillion years!

On my way to meet my friends, i saw this portrait i like a lot
Photobucket

This photo doesnt do justice to it cos u need a close up pic to see the texture of the padi field :) Maybe i like it cos it's so green too.

When pple all said they'd be late, i decided to find a seat and treat myself to a cup of Teh-C.

PhotobucketPhotobucket

I was drinking tea, waiting for frens to come and watch the crazy weekend crowd walk by :)

RGS Prefects gathering was at Aerin's :)
I wasnt that hungry so i only ordered Brushchetta. I expected it to be better cos i've had better Bruschetta :) In general, the service, food presentation and taste of other dishes my friends ordered were all good!

We then moved off to this green tea place which i wanted to try some time ago.
Drinks werent fantastic, but i tried a mini-forkful of the cheesecake with red bean. It was surprisingly gd! I'm sure kendrick will like it :)

Also,
I'm now a proud owner of Asus eeepc 901 :)

I cant ask for more reasons to be happy today :)

The Butterfly Effect

Photobucket

Remember the quote "It has been said that something as small as the flutter of a butterfly's wing can ultimately cause a typhoon halfway around the world." ?

This is why i picked up this DVD when i saw it in the store. Perhaps it is also namesake cos i like butterflies.. but the movie didnt let me down :)

Here's the trailer. Watch if if u have time!

Some interesting taglines from the movie :)
Change one thing, change everything.
Such minor changes, such huge consequences.
The end is only the beginning.

Unsettledness

My classmate reminded me abt electives and it reminded me of how unsettled my electives are. Ideally i'd like to choose all my electives based on interest but i realise a lot of pple are planning electives around their revision for mbbs. I know it's pragmatic, tt's why i too have a problem deciding what i should do.

hai.

There's so many factors u need to consider before stamping that 'CONFIRMED' chop.

Why did i lose my happy mood to something so stupid. I guess i just dont like to feel unsettled right before bed time.

Who understands?

Anyway, out-of-pointly, i have a thought abt how awful it must be to place all ur bets on sth and it turns out to be the wrong choice.

Gd night.

Old Songs Re-loved

I got home earlier than expected and instead of succumbing to the temptation of sleeping cos of the fantabulous weather.. i decided to go for a short run. At this point of time when my fitness is all time low compared to the hall days when i train + run at least 3 times a wk, the treat to my ears provided by my trusty Creative MuVo is the more enjoyable part of my run :)

Songs i fell in love with again are
1. Raindrops keep falling on my head
2. When i look to the sky
3. Light in your eyes
4. When it's over

Those of you who havent heard of (2) u can either watch the mtv below or listen to it on my playlist on the left :)

I like combining 2 things i love, just like chocolate + mint or listening to music while i run. While my feet concentrate on running/walking, my ears listened to the lyrics carefully.

Yang and i had a recent facebook wall conversation that running blind (ie without specs) takes running to a different level. I think music have a similar effect too. I enjoy the run more and interestingly, i enjoy the music on a different level too.

Have u felt that the same song can impart different feelings on different occasions?
Amongst the songs i loved all over again, i felt a lot for When I look to the Sky by Train.

Read the words in bold. I felt that that's what love should be like :)

When it rains it pours and opens doors
And floods the floors we thought would always keep us safe and dry
And in the midst of sailing ships we sink our lips into the ones we love
That have to say goodbye

And as I float along this ocean
I can feel you like a notion that won't seem to let me go

Cause when I look to the sky something tells me you're here with me
And you make everything alright
And when I feel like I'm lost something tells me you're here with me
And I can always find my way when you are here

And every word I didn't say that caught up in some busy day
And every dance on the kitchen floor we didn't have before
And every sunset that we'll miss I'll wrap them all up in a kiss
And pick you up in all of this when I sail away

And as I float along this ocean
I can feel you like a notion that I hope will never leave

Whether I am up or down or in or out or just plane overhead
Instead it just feels like it is impossible to fly
But with you I can spread my wings
to see me over everything that life may send me
When I am hoping it won't pass me by

And when I feel like there is no one that will ever know me
there you are to show me

Cause when I look to the sky something tells me you're here with me
And you make everything alright
And when I feel like I'm lost something tells me you're here with me
And I can always find my way when you are here

On a totally different note, i thought i should post something about my big bruise so i will rmbr my bad fall.
Haha.. i regretted not taking daily pics of it so i can see how hemolysis changes the colour of my blue black :)

My bruise is yellow now. I believe it should be gone within a day or two :)
Ohya, i should 还文阳清白. To those i told a lie today... No, wenyang did not cause the bruise. I fell on my own :)

Enjoy the new songs i've added and have a great week ahead everybodyy!

Where Happiness Lies

I hope my friend doesnt mind me sharing the excerpt he found some meaning in :) cos i felt something when i read it on his blog too.

Life lessons need not be learnt through biography, self-help books or famous literary work. It can also be found in a children's book...

Every day is not always one of elation and joy...but a gift within which
happiness can be a goal:

"There are some days when I'm very happy...
and there are some days when I'm a little bit sad.
But now, on those days when I'm a little bit sad..
I try and find my way back to being happy...
"

from That's When I'm Happy - Beth Shoshan and Jacqueline

I think i will look for the book next time i am in borders or kinokuniya. The excerpt has made me curious enough about the book :)

For too many times, i realise that more and more of my friends are finding happiness unachievable. Personally, i miss the feeling of waking up and knowing for sure that i am in for a happy day. Some how i lost that joy of looking forward to watch how each pleasant day unfolds. Why? Is it age catching up on us?

Happiness does lie in each one of us. I am a happy person to some pple and i have been asked before (i think in sec sch) how i can be happy everyday. I knew then that whether i am happy or not is a choice. Somehow i forgot it along the way.. now i'm allowing external circumstance affect how i feel so easily.

I think i have changed. I no longer decide to be happy, but i'm more passive and just hope that something can make a difference to the day. Recently, it's been simple things like
(1) Learning something new / academically fruitful days
(2) Having fulfilling conversations
(3) Self-declared early days
(4) Nice food like home made tiramisu
(5) Napping on a rainy sunday afternoon

Hope everyone will find some way to feel happy. We all deserve to be happy :)

Lastly,i thought i should share another gem from the children's department.
Photobucket

Thanks to kendrick, i have my own copy!

So next time when u visit a bookshop, dont completely ignore the children's dept just because u think u're too old for the books there.

We should remind ourselves to stay young at heart :)

Have a good week ahead everybody!

Trust

My friends doing obstetrics and gynecology were telling me that Trust is when you never have to go for a single pap smear in your whole life. That's true cos if u and ur spouse are faithful, there is actually no need to check for HPV. agree?

I guess that's only one form of trust. I tried to look for pictures that can capture different types of trust and here they are!

Photobucket
This is the funniest but true. When u plan to cut ur long hair short, i think u will only go ahead with such a big change if u have sufficient trust in ur hairdresser.

Photobucket
I'll only entrust my keys with someone i trust. The same goes for pin numbers, passwords :) Some people trust only themselves.. but i guess they're just being careful? I just hope that people i trust actually realise that it's a compliment.

Photobucket
I think there is trust between the doctor and patient. Y'know, for too many times i see patients sign consent forms without fully understanding what their surgery entails or the hefty consequences of complications. I guess patients still go ahead with their doctors ' decision cos they trust that they're making the best decision and doing their best :)

Photobucket
Haha.. this could possibly be a shot of zebras having itchy necks.. but i like it cos i actually believe that animals have the equivalent of our friendships, relationships or champanionship :)

Photobucket
Trust between business associates.

Photobucket
Trust between dance couples. Dont u think that it takes huge amount of trust to believe that ur partner wont throw u in the air and not catch u?

Photobucket
Gosh.. i think i will have to trust the person who will be designing my kitchen in future a lot.

Photobucket
I have heard that pets are ur best confidant. But is it because they can never disclose ur secrets?

In general, i tend to assume the better of people. I will trust u until proven otherwise.

So what is ur kind of trust?

Pro

Palm just updated me on their latest release... Palm Treo Pro
My first thought was "how original?"

Photobucket

When HTC adds the word pro to their phones, i can clearly see the added pro-ness by the slide out key pad. But Palm treo pro doesnt differ too much from its counterparts. I think there's the wifi, slight better screen resolution and inrease from 1.3 to 2.0mp camera to yay about, but it didnt have enough to make me want to buy it.

Then again, all palms already have keypads... what else can palm add? :)

HTC touch pro may currently be my perfect phone now but perhaps i should reserve the 'prefect' title till i try the keypad:) I realise i cant type as well on dopod 838pro cos the keys are widely spaced. I suspect it could be the same prob with Touch pro :(

I realise that if i am patient enough, palm might actually produce my next love.
Though my current Treo 750 has its own idioscyncracies.. it's actually a very good phone.

I'm happy for gab cos he'll be getting his iphone soon! :)

Found!

Thank goodness for the kind soul who picked up my wallet and bothered to return it to the students' affair centre.

Y'know i wish i could thank this person and find out where my wallet was found. I still cannot figure out where the wallet could have fallen out.

So happy that i could reactivate my debit card so there wont be any hassle getting a replacement :)

yay

Also, i found the david garrett cd at gramaphone! If u like david garrett too, can borrow from me :)

Panda Saves the day!

To make me feel worse, it had to rain and i couldnt make it for my much anticipated soccer :( :(

The rain finally stopped at 4.15pm but if i take bus, i'll only arrive at tchs at 5.30? The game ahead will excite me, but the long bus ride would kill me first.
Hope the guys are having fun though! :)

Instead of letting my mood go downhill, i decided to watch Kungfu Panda without any expectations. It was unexpectedly quite enjoyable actually! I like how the show epitomised a lot of our chinese kungfu shows well. Watch it if u havent! U can borrow my dvd, anytime :)

Photobucket

I laughed when there was a kungfu master which was a turtle. They called him 'master oogway' which presumably, probably master 乌龟?

This is master oogway...
Photobucket

I actually like the scene of master oogway at the sacred peach tree a lot. It was very blue and starry. I tried to find a pic of it as my desktop wallpaper, but to no avail. Obviously, i might be the only one who actually appreciated the scene :(

Now that this movie lifted my mood abit, i shall hope my next movie Bad Habits would make my weekend better!

Photobucket

Unbelievable

This post was supposed to be written and published yesterday but my day was unbelivably bad that i additionally couldnt even login to blogger to post about my awful day.
(actually i still can't but i figured a way to post this! -yay-)

Actually, my whole day wasn't totally awful. I should be celebrating that eopt is finally over, my cg finally made our hanabe dream come true and be glad at least i got to watch the history making unbelievable table tennis match that kept me at the edge of my seat.

BUT, how happy can u be when u think u lost ur wallet? Argh.. i last used my wallet before i left school on thurs. I dont recall taking it out or any situations that required me to take it out until fri morning when i discovered my wallet isnt in my bag when i needed to pay for something. At the cashier, i thought my wallet must have fallen out of my bag at home and i remained hopeful. So u can imagine how devastated i was when i couldnt find my wallet at home!

So, last night was spend calling nus and nuh security office for any lost and found wallet and also the band to block my debit card. NOPE, no one has returned any wallet. I dont care if someone takes my money la.. just return me my cards!

I must have felt that my day was bad ystdy cos i was sick on thursday too.
But i shall let it go and remain hopeful that my wallet appears suddenly!

Pictures of Hanabe :)

Some food of Hanabe. With special mention of the solitary salmon teriyaki they served which looked really saddd...
Food was ok, but not good enought for me to go back again.

Photobucket
I like this koi on the wall :)

Photobucket
The highlight of lunch was the wasabe challenge with brave participants Jeremy and Gab. The challenge was to place wasabe in ur mouth and the one who tears first will lose.

Photobucket
Gab hanging in there, strong.

PhotobucketPhotobucket
PhotobucketPhotobucket

Guess who was the winner from the picture?
Gab actually dropped the first teardrop, but he bravely swollowed the huge spoonful of wasabe. Jeremy on the other hand spat it out. Jeremy thinks gab is the true winner!

I'm feeling happier now that i get to blog :) yay

Olympic Fever

Whoa.. watching artistic gymnastic was a thrilling experience. As always, it's always my favourite event to follow.

Unfortunately, i can almost feel the pain sometimes when the athletes make costly mistakes or fall from the uneven bars. Such things really look painful!

I must admit tt i really admire their ability to concentrate. When they do their rotations, there will always be someone doing the floor and there'll be distracting music playing. I already have trouble concentrating when doing simple stuff, imagine having to tell urself to land gracefully on a 4" wide beam!!!

I only got to watch the 2nd qualifying round. Here's 2 gymnasts that i think will go far :)

Photobucket

Shawn Johnson. Though standing only 1.45m tall, she's definitely power-packed. Her moves are firm and precise. She currently ranks #1 :)

Photobucket

Liukin Nastia. Opposite of Shawn, she is tall for a gymnast. Standing 1.6m tall, i thought her movements looked extremely graceful with her long legs. She was awesome on the uneven bars, until she landed on her butt after she dismount. Despite this awful mistake, she was still able to get 15.950.. can u imagine how whooping high score she'll get if hasnt made this mistake??

I checked the scores on the olympic webpage.. apparently china had a gymnast that scored 16.650 on uneven bars. I hope i get to watch her in the finals :)

Not as before

I was sad ystdy after i realise some things are just not as before :(

Aging Perfectly

My mom is always worried that she wont age beautifully physically. She's so afraid that she'll become all wrinkly and ugly that she tells me she'd rather die early.

Y'know, i was teaching her how to check her email the umpteenth time and she never gets it. I know i'm supposed to be patient but she could be asking me questions which the ans have been written down on her paper before. I understand that perhaps the whole www and email thing is hard to grasp for the technologically unintiated, tt's why i really hope she gets it soon.

In the past i used to check her email for her, but i thought it was better to teach her than she always rely on me, cos her work could be rather untimely, like very late, when i'm busy with other things or just when i'm about to leave home etc.

Anyway, the point i'm trying to make is it freaks me out when i think of becoming senile. If i could choose to age physically or mentally, i'd choose to preserve my cognitive. Well, it'll be prefect if u could have both :)

I'm sure everyone knows Audrey Hepburn.

In case u dont, here's a picture...

Photobucket

I read her biography 4 years ago and in fact my thoughts were actually written in the first entry of this blog. To me, she's one of the few in hollywood that has showed the world that it is possible to age beautifully.

There was this picture in the biography which i cannot find on the web of her looking so perfect even with those wrinkles :)

The next best i could find are

Photobucket

Photobucket

From 1988 until her death in 1993 she served as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and was honoured with the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her work. She was doing a lot even to the very end of her life...

I guess i cant say for sure how perfectly she aged, cos the truth is i never really knew her.

But to me, if u were to ask me how i'd like to age. She will be my answer.

Olympics Begins

Photobucket

I totally didnt plan to watch the opening but the perfromances this yr was surprisingly 紧凑 and kept me qt entertained. Also, cos everything was choreographed by zhang yi mou, i actually enjoyed the visual treat.

I'm still watching it on tv and although only 85 countries have made their entrance.. i realise i do not know the exact location or existence of so many countries! Clearly, i'm really ignorant :(

If u had tuned in to the parade of athletes.. did u figure out how the countries are ordered? Apart from greece who marched in first and China who will do so last, the other countries are sequenced according to the number of strokes in the first character of the country's name in chinese. Pretty cool right?

I managed to find the list of the athlete's marching order and singapore is 188th!

The commentator makes very interesting remarks about each country.. some not so nice as an introduction like 'burkina faso is a very poor country'. Some facts may be true, but it came out in a somewhat mocking tone. 'Malta has been taking part in the olympics since olympics started but has never wont any medals'. 'Liechtenstein is the longest standing member of the IC tt has never won anything.' Then there were funny comments like,"clearly not everyone in this country is blond" after the camera did a close up of a representative with hair roots of a darker colour when the rest of the hair is blond.

Despite all these, there were things i learnt from the commentator.. like liechtenstein has a population of 35,000 only! :):)

I was reminded of a lot of things when watching the athlete's parade. Watching papua new guinea march in actually reminded me of PIGBEL we learnt in micro B! This makes me wish my memory was put to better use -.-

I also saw countries i rmbr by the pretty stamps they print. Like dominican republican and liechtenstein. I actually have a dominican republican of a swan i really like :)

Hmm...Enough of my rantings.. more photos!

Ouch

Guess what happened to me today?

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

I know it's unbelievable, but our cg got into a purposeful fight so that we would all sustain some kind of forearm fracture so we get to practise how to apply backslabs on each other. hahaha

Photobucket

Obviously, gabriel got it the worst, cos he had it on both sides.

Photobucket
This photo was taken to rmbr the day we did sth like this to ourselves unanimously.

Photobucket
Photobucket

All this was witnessed by Ms Wong, the one of the few female orthopaedic surgeons in singapore :)

Photobucket
We look soo not in pain :) haha

Maybe we should do it again!
