Vicky Cristina Barcelona

Photobucket

I've been wondering why the movie title struck such strange familiarity in me until it just occured to me that maybe it's cos my host in germany is called christina and her sister, vicky!

Anyway, on to the movie. I heard the movie was filmed partly to promote barcelona and true enough, i was quite mesmerized by the architecture and the strong artistic feel the place exuded. I suppose this means that the movie has been quite successful in encouraging tourism?

The movie was about 2 best friends, cristina and vicky spending a summer in Spain. Even though they have 2 different extremes in attitude towards love, they found themselves strangely involved with one artist.

Vicky was about to get married to someone she thought she always wanted. The perfect man was successful and was the person she thought she shared similar values with. Somehow she found a connection with an artist she initially found disapproving and although it was only one encounter, it persistently jolted her decision abt her marriage.

Later, Vicky had a classmates who was interested in her and he made advancement despite she telling him she was married. I thought it was really sad that the guy had the courage to do so cos he was convinced that she wasnt happy with her marriage.

If i were Vicky, i'd wonder, is it that obvious? Anyway, what i saw in Vicky was her disbelief that who she envisioned all her life to be perfect for her might not be the one. It must have been real painful to know this right before marriage. If i were her, my conscience would haunt me crazy...

Cristina on the other hand hit it off well with artist and moved in with him. The interesting part began when the artist's ex wife came back and the 3 of them ?found love for each other? It's interesting how cristina the "3rd person" was the missing element in the couple's relationship, and there was some synergy going on.

I really liked Penelope cruz's role as the artist's ex wife. Penelope by the way was a true stand-out in the movie despite her shorter time of appearance in the movie. In the show, penelope inspired her husband's works and she also helped Cristina find her talent in photography.

I love the photos that were taken, i loved how the characters rode bicyles to the countryside to have a picnic while being surrounded by the most beautiful landscape and i also loved the idea how u can find a person who can help u enhance ur interests and strength and develop your full potential.

Anyway, nothing i say can do justice to the movie. Go watch it when u have time and hopefully, u do see the parts of the show i like :)
